Eighteen years of bespoke carpentry, built on patience, precision and respect for the material.
Bath Woodwork grew from a simple idea: that good furniture should be made locally, by someone who understands how you live. Founder James Harrington trained under a master cabinet-maker in Bristol before setting up his own bench in 2008.
What began as one-man operation working out of a rented garage has grown into a dedicated workshop on the outskirts of Bath, with a small team of three craftsmen and a steady flow of commissions from homeowners, architects and interior designers.
From initial conversation to delivery, here is what to expect.
We visit your home (or review your plans remotely) to understand the space, your requirements and your budget. No obligation at this stage — just an honest chat about what is possible.
We produce detailed drawings with dimensions, timber options and a fixed-price quote. Changes are free at this stage — we would rather get it right on paper than discover problems in the workshop.
Once approved, we source timber, begin construction and keep you updated with progress photographs. Fitted pieces are installed by our own team — no subcontractors, no surprises.
We source hardwood primarily from sustainably managed British and European forests. Oak and ash come from mills in the West Country; walnut and cherry are typically sourced through specialist merchants in the Midlands.
Every board is hand-selected for grain character, checked for moisture content and acclimatised in the workshop before cutting begins. This care at the start prevents warping, splitting and movement down the line.

"James and the team built us a kitchen that is head and shoulders above anything we saw in showrooms. The quality of the joinery is exceptional and the whole process was straightforward."
— Sarah & Mark, Widcombe
"We needed sash windows replicated for a Grade II listed terrace. Bath Woodwork matched the original profiles exactly and the conservation officer approved everything without issue."
